More Fun In San Antonio

And here's some pics from the convention:

Fun in San Antonio

Although I couldn't attend this year's convention in San Antonio- I hear (and can see) they had a blast. Here's a little sampling of what a cartoonist's convention is like. That's Pulitzer prize winning David Horsey in the sleeveless Jack Daniels tee dancing at the end of the video. Thanks to JP for the link!

More of Me dotter's work...

I'll eventually just make this her site. Ok so here's the process..My daughter usually comes up with an idea the night before it's due to print (I guess I HAVE had an impact on her after all). This consists mostly of a LOT of internet searches, text messaging her friends and snack breaks. Once she has an idea, she pencils the main characters and then inks them with a good old fashioned rapidiograph (#2 for most). The elements usually aren't in strip form at this point- just random spot art on a page. She then scans the art at 1200 DPI Bitmap mode. She opens the Photoshop template created for her strip and places her line art. She colors everything on separate layers. We recently discovered a program called Comic Life -- she usually does all of her lettering there and then copies and pastes the captions into her Photoshop file. I sit with her and make my suggestions all along the way which she summarily dismisses. The finished cartoon is flattened, resized and e-mailed-- usually right before I nod off.

From the AAEC's convention in Wasington

I ran across this recently- Dennis Kucinich speaking to us at the 50th year anniversary for the AAEC in Washington, D.C. July 7, 2007. Very funny guy, too bad he dropped out of the race- we would have had a ball drawing him.

Well at least my kid keeps drawing...

It's been so long since I last posted I almost forgot how. Here's my daughter's latest--she's into Japanese anime (in case you haven't figured it out).

Lost In Spin

Danger Will Robinson...Danger...
This one's a little late getting posted--I actually drew this the day that this story broke. I then wasted hours trying to color it the way I wanted--and finally gave up. I'm just now getting around to posting.

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree...

A couple of samples of my 15 year old daughter's cartoon work. She has a monthly cartoon appearing in her school paper.
